Title: Director of Marketing and Communications
Reports to: Executive Director, Moody Center for the Arts
Job Description:

The Director of Marketing and Communications is a full-time, exempt position reporting to the Executive Director. The role will develop and implement marketing strategies for the Moody Center for the Arts at Rice University, ensuring that the artistic program and all arts-related activities are appropriately positioned, communicated and disseminated both internally and externally. Reporting to the Executive Director, this position will be responsible for managing marketing and communications across multiple platforms, including social media and the web, as well as coordinating all public relations efforts.

Communications Planning
- Working with the Executive Director and senior staff, implement an annual communications plan for the Moody Center for the Arts, pursuing specific targets and goals to position the Moody as a place for creativity and interdisciplinary arts activity
- Track progress against those goals, including measuring marketing analytics, and provide regular updates regarding progress to the Executive Director

Marketing and External Affairs
- Write and edit marketing materials, including press releases, newsletters, and emails that describe the Moody exhibitions and programming both online and in print
- Draft, design and send monthly electronic newsletters to Moody constituents
- Establish and maintain a database of constituents, both internal and external, to send monthly newsletters and other electronic correspondence, such as All Department emails, Alumni requests, etc. 
- Coordinate graphic design, printing, and distribution of collateral material, such as posters, flyers, advertising, and mailing, as needed for exhibitions and programs
- Manage the Moody’s annual marketing budget
- Maintain image files, including copyright information
- Supervise 1-2 student interns

Public relations
- Work with local and national media to promote the Moody and the arts at Rice
- Act as a liaison with Moody’s contractors, such as design and web firms and printers, as needed
- Handle all inquiries from media and outside parties for information about the Moody
- Schedule tours and/or interviews with the Moody’s artists and staff, as needed
- Proactively research, contact and establish relationships with on- and off-campus partners, including the local museum district, to ensure that Moody programs are widely communicated
- Give tours of the Moody as needed

Website and Social Media
- Create high-quality content for all the Moody’s social media channels, specifically Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
- Manage and update content for the Moody website, ensuring it is accurate and up-to-date (experience with Drupal is helpful)
- Manage and update Rice University’s events.rice.edu calendar with Moody events
- Manage and update the Arts Portal website arts.rice.edu in a timely manner, coordinate the participation of other arts colleagues on campus. Help market this resource to the campus and the community.
- Keep abreast of digital trends and suggest those appropriate for the Moody

Exhibitions and Program Support
- Format and coordinate printing of exhibition handouts
- Coordinate vinyl signage for exhibitions and other museum signage as needed
- Provide staff presence and support at Moody events and programming as needed
- Coordinate photography and video for programs and events as needed

Skills Required
- Bachelor of Arts degree in marketing, communications, liberal arts, or related field
- 3-5 year’s experience in a communications role, including creating and executing a comprehensive communications plan
- Outstanding writing skills, including the ability to write compellingly about the arts, education and community engagement
- Experience with web and social media
- Experience managing third-party vendors such as branding, public relations and web design firms
- Ability to think creatively and develop innovative approaches and communications strategies
- A desire to work in a fast-paced, start-up environment
- A passion for the arts is desirable
